Trip Overview – The Rumble

Experience the beauty and fun on the stretch of river we call The Rumble. It’s a family friendly raft trip with splash class II-III rapids, sun soaking stretches and amazing canyon scenery found only on a federally designated wild and scenic river like the Upper Klamath.

We’ll meet at 9:30 in the morning at the ROE office, and prepare you for a fantastic adventure on the river. You’ll ride with us to the Spring Island river put in about 40 minutes away. After the guides provide a safety briefing we’ll push off downriver through some spectacular scenery. ROE will provide the gear you need and the guides will bring their knowledge and experience. Our guides are always ready to coach you down the river. They’ll also let you know when you can have some fun splashing through the rapids or swimming in the calm spots. The area is rich in cultural, historic and natural treasures and the guides are excited to share all they know about the area with you.
Midway down river we stop for a snack of watermelon, chips, salsa and bottled water. After our river snack we’ll continue downriver, splashing our way to the take-out near the historic Frain Ranch. The six-mile river trip has a great mix of friendly whitewater, swimming and floating in the calm stretches. Highlights of the day will include Klamath River Canyon and rapids, lots of splashy riffles and several class II and III rapids. We’ll end the day around 2:30 once we’ve transported you back to your car at the ROE office.

Q. How long are we on the water?

A. Part Day trips are about 2 hours on the water.

A. Full day trips are about 4-5 hours on the water.

It depends on water flows and other variables for raft trips.

Q. Do I need a car?

A. You will ride to the river and back with us.  You will need to meet at our office located at 5391 Running Y Road, Klamath Falls Oregon.  If you need to arrange a shuttle to our office location please contact us for additional assistance.

Q. What should I wear?

A. We encourage you to dress for the weather. In warmer weather shorts, bathing suit, tee shirt and footwear that will stay on your feet works great. In cooler weather some synthetic fleece, polypro, capilene or wool are a good idea. In cooler weather try to avoid cotton and jean material as it loses its insulating properties when wet. We do have wetsuits available for colder weather. Please request in advance. Straps for sunglasses and eyeglasses are also recommended.

Q. Should I wear shoes?

A. You should wear shoes that will stay on your feet and that can get wet. We recommend watershoes, sandals that strap on or tennis shoes with no socks. Flip flops and crocs are not recommended.

Q. Do I need a life jacket?

A. We provide lifejackets and you are required to wear them.

Q. Do I need a wetsuit?

A. You do not need a wetsuit. Wetsuits are available for rent but most people find that a shirt and shorts are best. If you get cold easily you are welcome to make arrangements in advance for a wetsuit rental. Just call the office before you arrive.

Q Is gear provided?

A. Life jackets, helmets and paddles are provided.

Q. Is lunch provided?

A. Lunch is NOT included on part-day trips. (The Rumble) We do provide a light snack on part-day trips. Usually watermelon, chips and salsa along with bottled water.

A. Yes, lunch is provided on full-day trips. (The Mega)  Boxed lunches (sandwich, fruit, cookie, chips) Bottled water is provided.

Q. Where do we meet/leave from?

A. Normally you will meet your guide at the ROE office and ride with them to the river from there. (5391 Running Y Road, Klamath Falls Oregon.) You may drive your own car to the boat launch but it is not recommended as the road in and out is unimproved and very rough. If you do not have a vehicle and need a ride from your hotel please contact us in advance. We will do our best to make arrangements to pick you up or have your hotel give you a ride to our office.

Q. How far away is the river?

A. From the ROE Office…. To put-in
The Rumble Wild & Scenic, Klamath River
To Boat launch 30 minutes / RETURN TIME 60 MINUTES / TOTAL TRIP TIME APPROXIMATELY 5 HOURS
A. The Mega – Upper Klamath River
To Boat Launch 30 minutes / RETURN TIME 1.5 TO 2 HOURS DEPENDING ON ROAD CONDITIONS / TOTAL TRIP TIME APPROXIMATELY 9 HOURS

Q. Is there cell service on the trips?

A. Not on the Klamath River. This is a wild and scenic river and somewhat remote. You should plan to leave cell phones, and other personal items that you do not want to get wet behind on the shuttle van.

Q. Is rafting dangerous?

A. Though we do as much as we can to minimize the risk, there is a risk that must be accepted in order to participate in a raft trip.  There are absolutely dangers involved in a raft trip.
